About the role
The Director, Primary Curriculum directs the strategic implementation of support, resources and advice on curriculum for primary learners across all learning areas and NSW syllabuses.
The role leads a team of central officers to provide policy advice and deliver evidence based teaching and learning resources and professional learning K-6 to ensure the learning entitlement for every student can be met. The Director, Primary Curriculum is responsible for driving compliance with legislative requirements through provision of advice and robust monitoring and evaluation procedures.

About you
Our ideal candidate will have a strong moral purpose, passion and commitment to improving student outcomes with a relentless focus on closing equity gaps. This is an opportunity for the successful candidate to drive curriculum reform by leading a high performing and expert team to enhance effective curriculum implementation across NSW public schools. You will have proven senior management experience and possess evidence of leading complex work with agility to manage competing priorities to maximise the use of constrained resources.
You will effectively draw of the skills and experience of others to ensure delivery in a fast paced environment. You will also have deep knowledge of primary curriculum content and evidence based pedagogical knowledge. Your experience should outline evidence of leading system wide implementation with a focus on change management leading to change in teaching practice.
The successful canddaite will have excellent communication, relational and infuencing skills to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated extensive experience at a senior level in the management of a large complex organisation.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as education, business, management, social sciences or communications, and/or equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Hold a valid clearance to work with children (Working with Children Check).
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
As a condition of employment, successful candidates who have not previously worked for the department will be required to provide a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance number. This option would allow the WWCC to naturally expire without further communication needed with the employee. The employer obligations under the WWCC would apply for duration of the WWCC’s validity (up to 5 years).
