About the role

The role serves as a finance partner to divisional executives at the Department of Education, delivering a broad range of financial advice and support. By providing access to specialist financial expertise, it empowers managers to make informed decisions and enhance business performance in alignment with the Department’s strategic goals. The primary responsibility is to deliver financial insights, tools, and analysis that support the Department’s executives in making informed decisions and shaping business strategy. The role collaborates with experts across the finance organisation to develop advice which results in effectively aligning financial management strategies and organisational objectives.

About you
We are currently seeking a Finance Manager to join our team and work alongside the Divisional Executive.

 

The preferred candidate will have:
 

  • The proven ability to build and maintain trusted partnerships with stakeholders, optimising business outcomes through effective collaboration and communication.
  • Extensive experience in utilising finance systems to generate valuable insights and provide data-driven recommendations that support business decision-making.
  • Skills in working with stakeholders operating in dynamic environments, balancing competing priorities while adapting to and supporting organisational change.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

 

Essential requirements of the role
 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting or in a related discipline and eligibility for membership to a recognised professional accounting body.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.

As a condition of employment, successful candidates who have not previously worked for the department will be required to provide a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance number. This option would allow the WWCC to naturally expire without further communication needed with the employee. The employer obligations under the WWCC would apply for duration of the WWCC’s validity (up to 5 years)
