About the role

Reporting to the Deputy Secretary, School Infrastructure, the Executive Director, Land and Property provides high-level strategic leadership and expert advice to ensure strategic land and property transactions optimise the delivery of the School Infrastructure portfolio. 

The role leads a team of property professionals and technical experts, and plays a critical role in driving the department’s ‘Land Acquisition Strategy’, ‘Acquisitions and Transactions Pipeline’, ‘Divestment Strategy’, ‘Annual Asset Sales Target’, and ‘Office Accommodation Strategy’ and associated governance, planning, policies and systems to support the objectives of the NSW government and meets the needs of a growing NSW population.

About you

You are a dynamic and outcomes-focused leader with strong expertise in the development and delivery of strategic and tactical directions on land and property projects in schools and educational infrastructure. 

With a deep understanding of infrastructure and planning, the key to your success will be your exceptional ability to influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders and partners to collaborate with whole-of-government initiatives. 

You will foster a culture of high performance and collaboration with view of continuous improvement while demonstrating sound time, people, financial and risk management. 

As a leader you will join an executive team focused on driving improved ways of working to deliver meaningful and long-lasting impact. You will be collaborative, courageous, agile, and disciplined about delivering outcomes for the students of NSW.


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as planning, property economics, law, business, and/or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Hold a valid clearance to work with children (Working with Children Check).
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience at a senior level in the management of a large complex organisation.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.


As a condition of employment, successful candidates who have not previously worked for the department will be required to provide a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance number. This option would allow the WWCC to naturally expire without further communication needed with the employee. The employer obligations under the WWCC would apply for duration of the WWCC’s validity (up to 5 years).
