About School Infrastructure

 

The School Infrastructure division is dedicated to building and maintaining a safe learning environment for every child. By delivering new school building, major upgrades and maintenance, it ensures students across all ages have access to high-quality education and facilities.

 

About the role

 

The Senior Architect/Technical Designer manages and oversee the design of School Infrastructure projects and ensure that school designs are innovative, functional, cost-effective and meets the organisational, legislative and educational requirements.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee and guide the development of 3D block and stack masterplans/ concept designs of new and upgraded school infrastructure
  • Direct and coordinate investigations into design activities and application of EFSG, Pattern Book and design principles for NSW school’s framework
  • Provide expert advice and best practices on infrastructure designs and ensure designs are in line with Educational Facilities Standards and Guidelines (EFSG)
  • Review building and landscape designs for completeness, building standards and constructability compliance, drawing upon professional expert advice from subject matter experts as required
  • Undertake analysis and prepare accommodation schedules for current and future educational facilities to inform project scope and design briefs
  • Contribute to the development of the School Infrastructure Patternbook and EFSG Updates
  • Ensure design resources are available and assigned appropriately and meets the need and demands
  • Manage design service quality and ensure it meets project timeline and within budget
  • Prepare and present project design briefs and design concepts to internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead the delivery of technical and architectural design activities of priority projects

About you

 

As the Senior Architect/Technical Designer, you will be a qualified architect and/or urban designer who is specialised in school design. To be successful you will demonstrate:

 

  • Strong expertise in master planning and design
  • Proficiency in using architecture software and programs including Rhino, Revit and Form as well as Adobe InDesign
  • Proven ability to work independently on design projects
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate with several stakeholders and subject matter experts
  • Being a collaborative team player with the ability to work in a dynamic design group
  • Understanding of School Infrastructure standards including EFSG and Patternbook

Essential requirements of the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in Architecture, Urban Design or a related discipline and/or equivalent, relevant knowledge or experience.
  • A valid Working with Children Check Clearance for paid employment
  • Flexibility to travel to state-wide locations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
