About the role
The Executive Director, Health, Safety and Staff Wellbeing drives the strategic direction and delivery of programs and initiatives that deliver wellbeing and personal resilience capability uplift across the department’s workforce.
The role is also responsible for providing an effective department-wide incident notification and response system. The role drives the management of return-to-work pathways in efficient, compassionate and sustainable ways, while acting to reduce the health and safety risks to the organisation, with a continuous improvement focus that delivers improved wellbeing outcomes for the workforce and organization. This role requires the ability to evaluate data and reports to identify trends and improve safety practices.

About you
Our ideal candidate will bring strategic insight and operational expertise to the role. You will have a proven track record of driving cultural change, leading diverse teams and ensuring compliance. You will be joining a highly collaborative executive team, working closely with the Chief People Officer, to provide expert advice to stakeholders at all levels. This role requires a high level of skills and experience in applying safety protocols to staff, clearly conveying policies, identifying potential hazards and evaluation risks to implement safety measures.
The successful candidate will understand and keep up to date with relevant health and safety regulations and standards.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated extensive experience at a senior level in the management of a large, complex organisation.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as education, business, management, social sciences or communications, and/or equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Hold a valid clearance to work with Children (Working with Children Check).
- Willing to obtain security clearance.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education
As a condition of employment, successful candidates who have not previously worked for the department will be required to provide a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance number. This option would allow the WWCC to naturally expire without further communication needed with the employee. The employer obligations under the WWCC would apply for duration of the WWCC’s validity (up to 5 years).
