About the role

The Executive Officer to the Executive Director, Public Early Childhood Education and Care, provides high-level strategic and operational support to enable effective leadership and delivery across the directorate. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the role contributes to setting a positive culture and improving communication and collaboration across teams and stakeholders.

 

The role supports the Executive Director in managing competing priorities, overseeing key deliverables, and ensuring high-quality, timely advice, briefings and correspondence. It requires strong judgement, attention to detail and the ability to identify risks and emerging issues early. The Executive Officer also leads a small team, builds capability, and drives coordination across the department to support cohesive and aligned work.

About you

  • A highly autonomous, detail-oriented professional with exceptional organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic coordination, executive support and navigating complex organisations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, build trust and drive collaboration across teams.
  • Ability to operate under pressure while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • A critical thinker, with experience in making objective, analysis-backed decisions and recommendations.

 


Essential requirements of the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and/or experience.
  • A valid Working with Children Check for paid employment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
