This is a dynamic, hands-on role where every day is different. You’ll work directly with principals, teachers, and school teams, responding to incidents, simplifying safety processes, and guiding best practice across a diverse range of school settings.
You won’t be behind a desk all day. You’ll be out and about problem-solving, advising, and helping others feel confident and supported in managing safety. One day you might be supporting a school to strengthen their WHS Management Program, the next, you’re helping navigate an urgent safety issue with practical advice.

About the role
As a Work Health Safety Advisor, you will lead and support the implementation of health and safety programs across a diverse portfolio of school and corporate workplaces. You will:
- Provide expert advice on risk management, emergency response, training, staff wellbeing, and safe systems of work.
- Support workplace leaders in managing health and safety compliance, including responding to SafeWork NSW notices and audits.
- Analyse data to identify trends and recommend strategic improvements to WHS policies and systems.
- Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistent and effective WHS service delivery.
- Draft briefings, reports and contribute to developing policies and procedures that enhance safety culture and compliance.
- Monitor and ensure accuracy of WHS data to support operational planning and informed decision-making.
You’ll be a key contact for workplace managers, providing guidance to ensure safe learning and working environments across all departmental sites.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Strong WHS knowledge, and a customer-focused mindset, thriving in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
- Strong experience in delivering WHS services and advice across a variety of settings, ideally including education or public sector environments.
- Sound understanding of WHS legislation, codes of practice and contemporary safety practices.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and support a wide range of stakeholders.
- Confidence in using data to assess risk, identify trends and recommend solutions.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail, compliance, and data accuracy.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Essential requirements of the role
- Current and valid driver’s license and an ability and willingness to travel between work sites
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
