Media Liaison Officer

- Temporary Full-Time opportunity until 4th May 2026
- Located in the Riverina region, the role offers flexible working arrangements with the expectation of attendance in a Department office of at least 50% of working hours
- Competitive salary from $110,266 to $122,058 p.a. plus superannuation and annual leave loading
About the role
As the Media Liaison Officer, you will play a key role in managing the department’s strategic engagement with the media, by developing effective media strategies, coordinating timely responses to media enquiries and preparing holding statements during critical incidents. The role will also include:
- Fostering strong working relationships with journalists and media outlets.
- Monitoring and managing media risk and providing timely advice and support to mitigate issues.
- Providing media support to internal stakeholders including drafting talking points, holding statements and providing media coaching.

About you
You bring solid experience in media, journalism or public relations with proven ability to collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver successful news media strategies.
You will also demonstrate:
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage time-sensitive and competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and quality of media content.
Key Knowledge and experience
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
- Hold or willing to obtain a Working with Children Check for paid employment.
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or demonstrated relevant equivalent professional experience and training.
- Willingness and ability to work a work schedule that requires out of hours work, and during holiday periods.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
